A Safe Place Restores Trafficking Victims in Wilmington

Safe Place

Malisa Umstead and Anjanette Spencer of A Safe Place join Life 90.5 for our Ministry Focus:

A Safe Place focuses on advocacy, prevention and restoration of victims of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. This is happening here in Wilmington, with 196 victims identified this year alone. Groups targeted by traffickers include both males and females ages 11-14, often reached through social media.

Doing more than providing emergency housing, A Safe Place also handles case management, gives employment opportunities for victims and maintains an outreach center. The hotline number is 855-723-7529. Extension 2 at that number will allow you to leave an anonymous tip that will passed along to law enforcement.

There are other ways to help besides providing tips. People can get involved by volunteering or donating. You can donate or find out more information at asafeplacetogo.com. Also, check out the Amazon registry for specific items needed that you can purchase here.
