Alisa Newber joins us from First Fruit Ministries, inviting you to partner in serving the homeless community in Wilmington. Church groups, in addition to civic groups and individuals, can serve in a variety of ways.
First, the food pantry needs volunteers. Open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, the homeless are served from 10/11 AM to 1/2 PM. If you’d like to help, know that you would need to arrive by 9 AM.
Second, First Fruit serves a meal to the homeless on Sunday and Wednesday nights at 7th and Market Streets. They are asking for churches or civic groups to pick a Sunday or Wednesday and serve monthly.
Third, there are various programs the ministry uses to minister to the community. One such program provides housing, peer support and counseling for women. Another program entitled “Back at Home” helps those made homeless by Hurricane Florence.
First Fruit is on the lookout for more opportunities to serve as the Coronavirus begins to impact our community. Their focus is on prayer and watching for God to make a way so that needs can be met.
If you would like to help in any of the ways described, call 910-794-9656. If you’d like to donate to First Fruit Ministries, go to firstfruitministries.org.
