Becky Graves, executive director of Haiti Awake, joins us with reports of how their ministry is continuing in the COVID-19 pandemic. Haiti Awake operates in Port-au-Prince, but is based here in Wilmington, North Carolina. Circumstances in Haiti are much like that of Wilmington as there are scattered cases of the virus and the nonprofit’s staff is mostly staying at home.
However, they’ve recently had an opportunity to show Christ’s love to people in Port-au-Prince. Most people can’t afford to purchase masks as they live day-to-day. They hired a local tailor to make masks, then they gave them away to very appreciative recipients. Otherwise, the staff continues to work hard ministering to those around them as possible.
Currently Becky is unable to return to Haiti, but God has brought Haiti to Becky. A Haitian man is stuck in Wilmington unable to return home. By God’s kind design, the man is actually living near Becky. They meet every evening for Becky to teach him English while he helps her hone her skills in Creole.
As Becky waits to return to Haiti and the ministry team, she leans on Proverbs 16:9, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
